The Rural Renewable Energy Alliance (RREAL) is striving to address rural poverty with solar heat, foster energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and break down the financial and informational barriers to the widespread use of solar energy.

By delivering solar heat to low-income families on public energy assistance, RREAL endeavors to make solar energy accessible to people of all income levels.

Like the digital divide that once severely separated communities’ access to the information age based on class, society is at risk of developing a renewable divide where the more affluent communities will have greater access to solar energy.

Yet, it is our lower income communities that are most gravely affected by the energy crises. When energy costs spike, our lower income communities are most vulnerable, having to devote a larger percentage of personal income to the basics of heat and electricity. By mitigating the impact of energy cost volatility, solar energy can dramatically reduce one of the root causes of poverty.

In order for our society as a whole to transition to a renewable and post-carbon economy, access to solar energy and other renewables must be made economically accessible.

See how RREAL’s many programs and services use solar energy to address rural poverty, foster energy security and self-reliance, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and ensure that people of all income levels have access to a viable technology. At a nexus of social and environmental justice, welcome to RREAL!
